FAYETTEVILLE — The annual Point In Time survey is being held in the Fayetteville-Cumberland County area.

The survey is an effort to find out how many homeless individuals there are and what issues they are facing. Members of the Fayetteville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and various individuals in the community have hit the streets.

They are asking the homeless questions like their, sex, race, age, and how long they have been homeless. The Fayetteville Police Departments said many people may not realize just how large of a issue this is.

"A lot of people don't realize that in our last "Point in Time" survey, last year, we had over 450 homeless children in our community, 1,600 homeless individuals in our community, so there is a big need for helping homeless in our community," said Public Information Officer Gavin MacRoberts with the Fayetteville Police Department.

The survey began Wedensday and concludes Thursday night.
