RALEIGH -- The city of Raleigh has named its new police chief. Cassandra Deck-Brown is now the top cop in the City of Oaks. The promotion becomes effective Feb. 1.
Deck-Brown has been serving as interim police chief for the department since the retirement of former Chief Harry Dolan. She said budgetary constraints will be one of her biggest challenges
"We have to make sure as a chief I have the necessary tools for the trade for those officers to go forth and carry out the services you expect them to carry out," said Deck-Brown. "That includes training, that includes equipment, that includes technology, knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge."
She joined the department in 1987. Deck-Brown is a North Carolina native and a graduate of East Carolina University. She is Raleigh's first black female police chief.
