DURHAM--Authorities in Durham say amassive apartment fire was intentionally set.

They are now investigating the case as an arson.

Fire officials said they believed the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread to the attic of the the Springfield Apartment complex at the 4600 block of University Drive.

A call was received at 4:00 p.m. and when firefighters arrived, they said they saw flames and serval apartment homes damaged.

In total, 18 apartments were burned and nearly three dozen people were displaced from their homes.

A firefighter had one minor injury, and no other injuries were reported.

Red Cross workers are helping the families get back on their feet.
