JACKSONVILLE — For the first time since 2007, the Jacksonville High School football team is 2-0. In 2010, the Cardinals were winless and last season saw slight with two wins.

As a result of Jacksonville's good start, the practices are more competitive and the players are locked in on the task at hand.

"It feels a lot different, the way the intensity is out here." said Byron Dennis, an offensive linemen for Jacksonville's football team.

One change from previous years that is noticeable on the practice field is the close-knit nature of the 2012 Cardinals football team.

"The other years we had some selfish players, but this year everybody's on the same page." said Dana Stone, a defensive back for Jacksonville's football team.

The togetherness of the 2012 Jacksonville High squad has been on full display in both of the first two games of the season since it took a unified team to believe it could win despite the adversity it endured against Laney High School and Southwest Onslow High School.

"Since they've had a little success early, they think they can win every game,” said Jacksonville High head coach Beau Williams. “In previous years it was kind of wait and see, but now we go in believing we can win”.

Jacksonville will put its 2-0 record on the line when it travels to face crosstown rival 2-0 Northside High School Friday night.
