DURHAM (AP) -- So many seasons at Duke have been doomed before they ever really got started. These Blue Devils are determined to not let it happen again.

Duke opens Saturday night against Florida International hoping to start the year off strong for a change.

The Blue Devils are 2-2 in openers under coach David Cutcliffe and they've all come against teams from the Championship Subdivision. They haven't opened by beating a Bowl Subdivision team since 2002.

Running back Josh Snead says there's "no substitute for victory.''

The Blue Devils have had plenty of trouble with what look like winnable games on paper, losing three times to FCS team Richmond since 2006. This is by far their toughest season-opening challenge under Cutcliffe.

FIU is coming off consecutive bowl trips under coach Mario Cristobal.
