CHARLOTTE -- Friday, students and community members got a first look at the newly renovated Time Warner Cable Arena convention hall. For the past seven weeks, construction crews renovated the space to include a state-of-the-art configuration stage and podium.
"Their work is the backbone of the convention," said Theo LeCompte, DNCC COO. "We've built this stage with materials that will all be used over and over again, trying to conserve the resources we have made available to us."
Attendees of the tour say they are excited to experience what will be history making moments for the city of Charlotte.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This is a great opportunity to have the city on a national platform," said attendee Sabrina Jackson.
"I'm really just trying to share a little bit of the excitement here in Charlotte with everyone back in Germany and throughout the world," said Kathleen Burnett, who lives in Munich, Germany but is originally from Indiana.
Burnett is part of a Tweetup group invited by the committee. She is also a delegate for Democrats abroad.
"One of the things about moving abroad is that you realize just how important American politics are for everyone," said Burnett. "So they are very fascinated because they don't really have anything like this."
For the next several days the delegate will tweet, Facebook and use many other forms of social media to share her experiences at the DNC and introduce the world to Charlotte.
