RALEIGH -- All eyes will be on the Powerball drawing Wednesday night with the jackpot at a whooping $320 million. That's more than three times the average winning amount.
Since June the jackpot has continued to grow. But now, the price to play has gone up. Ticket prices have doubled from $1 to $2 this year.
Despite the price hike, lottery officials say the sales are also on the rise. They've seen an increase by about 10 percent since the change.
"Since we switched to this $2 Powerball game the average jackpot that has been won has been $124 million so it's now at $320 million, so close to three times the average," said Alice Garland, the executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery.
As for Wednesday night's Powerball drawing, that's set for 11 p.m. Officials say the odds of winning the jackpot are one in 175 million.
If someone wins, they could walk away with more than $200 million in cash.
