EFLAND, N.C. -- A man was struck and killed by a freight train in Orange County. Officials say it happened at Redman Crossing Road in Efland near Highway 70 just before 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say 34-year-old Andrew Farrell of Alamance County was sitting on the tracks as the train approached when he was hit. Officials say the operator blew its horn and engaged the emergency brakes. Farrell never moved.

No charges are expected to be filed.

The train is owned by Norfolk Southern.
