DURHAM -- Support continues to pour in for the victims of Sunday's tragic shooting in Wisconsin back in North Carolina. Sikh communities are responding by holding prayer sessions this week.

The Sikh community in Durham will be opening their doors Wednesday night to all members of the community as they take time to pay their respects to the six people who were gunned down.

People from all religious backgrounds have been gathering to honor the shooting victims. Their goal runs parallel to the vigils that will be held across the state. Not only are they praying for those who died, but they're also praying for education and acceptance with hopes of putting a stop to violent crimes like this.

"We are always living in this fear. Since 9/11, many Sikh's have been attacked and have fallen victim," said Dr. Tejpal Singh Dhillon, the Sikh Gurudwara of North Carolina. "At least three or four persons have died because of these attacks again under mistaken concept that we had anything to do with 9/11."

According to a leading Sikh American group, about 700,000 Sikhs live in the United States.
