WILSON, N.C. – The upcoming corn harvest  is looking good for some eastern North Carolina Counties.

The expected yield is 185 bushels per acre for Wilson County, which extension agents say is very good since the area normally does about 100 bushels per acre.

Farmers say timing of rainfall is key with the crop.

"The corn crop is going to be right decent here. You know, some people plant corn later than we do and some people plant corn earlier than we do and it's all about the rain and we've just been blessed enough to have the rain come at the right time,” said Kevin Gardner, of Gardner Farms in Wilson County.

Farmers say drought out west has severely affected corn crops in other parts of the country.

The harvest in Wilson County will begin in 20 to 30 days.
