RALEIGH – Unemployment rates rose in 84 counties in June, according to the latest numbers released today by the state Department of Commerce.

Currituck County had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 5.3 percent and Scotland County, once again, had the highest unemployment rate at 17.6 percent, point-6 of a percentage point higher than in May.

The overall unemployment rate in the state is 9.4 percent.

Rates increased in all 14 of the state's metro areas. Here's a snapshot of rates across the state:

Triangle:
- Wake County: 7.8 percent, up from 7.6 in May.
- Wilson County: 13.6 percent.

Triad:
- Guilford County: 10.3 percent, down from 11.5 percent in May
- Forsyth County: 9.5 percent, up point-6 percent in May.
- Alamance County: 10 percent.

Charlotte:
- Mecklenburg County: 9.9 percent, up from 9.6 in May.
- Richmond County has the highest unemployment rate in the Charlotte region, with 13 percent.
- Union County has the lowest rate, with 8.5 percent.

Coastal:
- Onslow County: 9.2 percent, up from 8.6 percent in May.
- New Hanover County: 9.3 percent.
