DURHAM – A Durham police officer remains in critical condition Friday morning at Duke Hospital after she was hit during a traffic stop Wednesday on Interstate 85.

Police say Officer Teresa Gilliam pulled over a vehicle in her unmarked car just past the exit ramp for Cole Mill Road when a tractor-trailer hit her car from behind, pushing it into the rear of the Mazda.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Charles Caldwell, is charged with DWI and careless and reckless driving.
