CREEDMOOR, N.C. -- Authorities are investigating a single car crash in Creedmoor, which left three people dead Sunday morning.
The highway patrol has not released much information, but dispatchers confirm it happened just after 2:00 a.m. on the 4700 block of Old Weaver Trail near Granville County.
"About 1:15, 1:20 I heard fire trucks coming from Falls Lake area. They come up towards the other end of Old Weaver Trail," said Creedmoor resident Blake McIntosh.
Police tape and some twisted metal mark the area on Old Weaver Trail where authorities say a car went off the road and killed three people. Neighbors we spoke with say that the roads sharp turns have been known to cause problems for drivers traveling through the area.
"The curve down at the bottom of the hill. People coming from the other direction seem to get over the middle of the road and when they meet somebody they can't react," said Creedmoor resident Lehman Brinkley.
Not too far from the crash site sits a makeshift memorial in memory of one of those wrecks. Brinkley, who has lived in the area for many years, says Sunday's incident is just the latest for an area that has seen a few cars run off the road while traveling on Old Weaver Trail.
"Nine months ago one morning a car came toward Durham going too fast and got off the shoulder of the road and ran up and the vehicle went up the tree," said Brinkley.
As the investigation continues authorities haven't said whether speed was a factor in the crash or if the driver may have been impaired.
