STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Residents in an Iredell County community are concerned about coyotes. That's after two coyotes attacked a small dog in Statesville on Tuesday.

The coyotes dropped the dog and ran off after a man who witnessed the attack shouted at them. The dog suffered two bites but is expected to be okay.

The dog's owner and other neighbors say they have seen coyotes before and are especially concerned since they live near a middle school. Iredell County Animal Control recommends that pets be kept inside or on a leash at all times.

Mecklenburg County has also had a number of coyote sightings and attacks in recent months.
