WILMINGTON — A Raleigh school administrator, Nevine Elshiekh, 46, is accused of taking part in a murder for hire plot and will be held without bond until her trial.

After listening to testimony from an FBI agent and the defendant's father, the judge made his decision to hold Elshiekh in custody.

In 2011, Hysen Sherifi was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his involvement in a North Carolina-based terrorist cell. The FBI said a jail informant told them Sherifi was planning a murder for hire plot to kill three witnesses who testified in his trial.

In court Friday we learned Elshiekh built a relationship with Sherifi during his trail through letters. The FBI said they have letters and recordings of phone calls and jail visits between the two.

Authorities also have video of Elshiekh meeting with an informant posing as a messenger for a hitman.

The defense touched on the fact it is not clear the defendant knew what was going on and Elshiekh acted upon instructions from Sherifi.

The defense spent a lot of time depicting Elshiekh's character.

"This case isn't about religion, this case isn't about Jihad, from where she is involved it's about being a victim of an evil man and there is an evil man in this one, Mr. Sherifi from our perspective is an evil man," said Defense Attorney Charles Swift.

Ultimately, the judge said he did not believe Elshiekh was a treat to the community. However since she recently traveled overseas and her passport is missing, he ordered she stay in custody. Swift said they will appeal the judge's decision.

They believe with modern day technology they can ensure Elshiekh will comply with court orders.
