National unemployment rate drops for fifth straight month

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The national unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest point in three years. According to numbers released by the Labor Department Friday, the rate declined in January to 8.3 percent from 8.5 percent.

The labor department says the economy added 243,000 jobs. The rate has fallen for five straight months.
