FAYETTEVILLE – A Fayetteville police officer suffered minor injuries after an accident Friday morning.

The incident happened at the intersection of Bailey Lake Road and Strickland Bridge Road shortly before 4 a.m. Police say Officer Donnie Smith swerved to avoid a 1998 Toyota Corolla, ran off of the road and hit a tree head on.

Officials say he was responding to a report of a breaking and entering. Smith was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center to be examined.

No charges have been filed in the accident.
