HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – The two suspects accused of killing two men while robbing a store in Orange County Wednesday made their first court appearances this afternoon.
Curtis White, 19, and Ladell Faucette, 22, are both charged with two counts of murder and two counts of armed robbery, for killing a store owner and his friend, a retired sheriff's deputy, on Wednesday.
According to search warrants just released, both men have confessed to the crime. Warrants show the men were at the small store where this all happened when investigators arrived on the scene Wednesday.
They were immediately questioned and gave inconsistent statements.
Investigators said they recovered the gun they believe was used in the murder at the home of one of the suspect's fathers.
Phillip Johnson & retired deputy Skip Wade were killed in the robbery. Wade's family said at least one of the suspects knew him. And they said they feel prison isn't punishment enough for killing their loved one.
"I'm mad as Hell. he is going back to a warm place and I'm going to the funeral home. I'm going back to see his body and he is going to a warm cell somewhere," said the victim's brother Randy Wade.
In court, White and Faucette asked for court-appointed attorneys.
The judge did not grant the suspects bail, and ordered them to be held at Central Prison for their safety, since a retired sheriff's deputy was one of the victims in this case.
Search warrants said the day before this robbery and murder, the suspects also robbed another store, threatening a pregnant cashier with a gun.
