RALEIGH—The Raleigh community is coming together to remember the victims of last year's mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona that killed six people and injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

It has been one year since the shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz. that killed six people and injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. On Sunday, Rep. Giffords will attend a ceremony at the University of Arizona in Tucson to honor the victims.

Vigils will also be held across the country, including one in Raleigh. Last year's mass shooting struck a cord with people across the country, and they are coming together with a common goal of ending gun violence.

North Carolinians Against Gun Violence along with other advocates will convene to support families affected by the cause and promote peaceful communities in their honor. People say they are tired of hearing that nothing can be done to prevent gun violence from happening.

"It's the first step, but it's the very first strong step to say we're going to do more. We're going to talk to our legislators, we're going to talk to people in our community, and we're going to do what it takes to keep guns out of the wrong hands and reduce the number of lives lost to gun violence," said Roxane Kolar with North Carolinians Against Gun Violence.

The vigil will take place at the Community United Church of Christ Sunday at 6 p.m. on Dixie Trail in Raleigh. The event is is one of 65 vigils being held in more than 20 cities across the country.
