FAYETTEVILLE -- Certain annual cancer tests may soon be a thing of the past. New recommendations were released Thursday regarding cervical cancer screenings saying they may only be needed once every three years. The new guidelines also take away the need for prostate cancer screenings yearly.

But some doctors say it really depends on the patient and the screens are beneficial.

"I think right now it's just a matter of those of us who are involved in prostate cancer care speaking out and talking to the public about how we see it. And we do see PSA as an imperfect, but useful tool," said Dr. William Berry, a medical oncologist.

He added the majority of his patients diagnosed with prostate cancer have never been screened in the past.
