MONROE – A driver will be charged in a three-car accident that killed a 19 year old from Monroe. Troopers say a driver was trying to turn left from Weddington Road to Airport Road.

The State Highway Patrol says 22-year-old Nicole Kozak rear ended that vehicle and pushed it into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. The truck hit the right side of the car and killed the passenger, Santasia Johnson, who lived in Monroe.

“Unfortunately, it appears the tires may have been turned as the vehicle was attempting to make a left turn,” said Trooper Mark Helms. “The vehicle coming up behind could not stop in time and ran into the back and it pushed it into the path of the pickup truck.

A 14 year old in the back seat of the car that was rear ended had serious injuries and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Kozak will be charged with death by vehicle.
