DURHAM—Citizens of Durham got together Saturday for a marriage a little bit out of the ordinary, a marriage between themselves and the city.

The City of Durham has been praised by the New York Times and other publications for its music and food scenes, as well as it's housing market. However residents in Durham say the unique community of people is what really makes their city great.

"It makes sense to say we love all of these cool things that are happening and we pledge, in fact commit, to making sure that we're helping out our less fortunate brothers and sisters and that we actually are acknowledging that we're all in this together and that's what this is all about," said Durham resident Maria Brown.

As part of their wedding vows, citizens pledged to keep the city streets clean and safe, protect natural resources and shop locally.
