RALEIGH – At Tuesday's work session the Wake County Board of Education presented a draft of the existing student assignment plan that calls for node assignments, calendar conversions and school designations.
School board officials agreed to further review the draft as their only option in the wake of Vice Chair Debra Goldman's approved resolution two weeks ago that required community based schools be pursued without establishing assignment zones.
Though they agreed to move forward with discussing a draft plan, the former board majority says they made that decision reluctantly.
"So, now we're back to ground zero as far as beyond the finalization of the three year plan," said Board of Education Chairman Ron Margiotta.
"Our goal had always been to bring a community model,” said board member John Tedesco. “Now there is an opportunity for other board members to join in on that effort to stop us.”
Wake County school officials have posted the student assignment draft in its entirety online.
