RALEIGH – Wake County Board of Education member John Tedesco admits diplomacy was fleeting Tuesday after some off-color remarks he made about Vice-Chair Debra Goldman.
At the committee of the whole meeting, Tedesco called Goldman a “prom queen” and later likened her to Benedict Arnold in a rant on his Facebook page.
The name-calling followed Goldman's announcement that she was parting with the school board majority driven plan that would include assignment zones, without providing parents a guaranteed school of choice.
"So, I felt a little bit betrayed, but again that's emotional and I allowed my emotions at that meeting to step out," said Tedesco.
"We don't need this kind of stuff,” said School Board Chairman Ron Margiotta. “Something we don't need. We're grown ups and I think Mr. Tedesco recognized that."
Goldman hasn't responded to Tedesco's name calling since the meeting.
The student assignment committee meets again Tuesday, October 12.
