RALEIGH -- Thousands of softball players from around the nation are in the Triangle this weekend for the 2010 Pony Fastpitch Softball national championship.
The Raleigh Jaycees are hosting the 4th annual tournament that features nearly 120 teams from around the country and Canada.
Teams qualified in two divisions -- 12 and under and 14 and under. Preliminary games began Saturday and opening ceremonies will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Koka Booth Amphitheater.
Official tournament play is set for Monday and Tuesday.
The games are expected to bring about 3,500 people to Wake County. Last year’s tournament brought more than $2 million in revenue to the area.
