RALEIGH – Wake County school board member John Tedesco announced that he is stepping down from his job with the nonprofit group Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In a letter released Friday night, Tedesco said he is stepping down as the organization's chief development officer so he can spend more time on school board issues.
Tedesco serves as chairman of two school board committees: the Student Assignment Committee and the Task Force for Economically Disadvantaged Youth.
He has supported the creation of a new assignment model based on community zones.
Regarding his decision, he said, “I believe in times of challenge, leaders need to make sacrifices to serve a greater public good. As we launch this new course over the coming months, I will be working beyond full time in these efforts to bridge those gaps on our path to 'great.'”
