City of Oaks Marathon runs through the capital city

RALEIGH – Thousands of runners took part in the third annual City of Oaks Marathon Sunday. The annual event features a full and a half marathon and started at N.C. State University's Centennial Campus.

4,000 runners laced up their shoes this year, and things got off to a soggy start because of the rainy weather.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Rex Healthcare Foundation and the Wounded Warrior project.

Officials say the course design allows runners to enjoy the diversity and natural beauty of the capital's rich southern history.

Last year, it took runners anywhere from two to about seven hours to finish the race. For a complete list of road closures and more details, click here.
