CHAPEL HILL — In the battle of the blues, duke drew first blood Wednesday.

Fans swarmed the team bus when it returned to campus after a 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Duke a dramatic 85-84 victory over UNC.

"This is just nuts. I can't even begin to explain to you what happened in our common room after
that shot was hit. People just went nuts after every replay. People went nuts all over again like it just happened. This is incredible. I can't even begin to explain," said Duke fan Ryan Neu.

For most of the night tar heels on franklin street were cheering as UNC surged to a 10-point lead late in the second half. It was a lead that quickly vanished and left them stunned and in disbelief.

"It was devastating. We were so ready and then in those last two minutes it just went downhill. It was awful," said Carolina fan Vanessa Condemi.

For the duke players and their fans, Wednesday's win was the latest chapter in the storied rivalry. Austin Rivers drove off to cheers from the fans, excited they were able to escape the Dean Dome with a victory.

"We got them this time and this is not going to wear off soon. I'm so excited," said Duke fan Kelly Howard.

For the Duke Blue Devils winning the game snapped the Tar Heels' home winning streak. The two teams will meet again in Durham on March 3.
