RALEIGH -- The NC House may change the Senate's Public School Overhaul Bill. Monday, the House Education Committee offered tax breaks to businesses that give money to non-profits, which in turn give scholarships to children to attend private schools.
The Senate measure was promoted by Sen. Phil Berger and focuses on improving reading programs in early grades and ending tenure for veteran teachers. The House plan would replace the merit pay with bonuses for teachers.
It's unclear when the committee will vote on the bill.
