CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board says it wants to wait another month before hearing a report from staff on how the recent consolidation of 13 schools is going.

Kaye McGarry, Richard McElrath and Joyce Waddell requested the report regarding recent problems at schools, specifically Harding High School which merged with E.E. Waddell. Harding was locked down and searched two weeks ago after threats about weapons on campus. Graffitti was also found on campus this week.

However, at the beginning of Wednesday's board of education meeting, board members McElrath and Waddell said they would prefer the report be delivered to the newly-sworn-in board next month.

The parliamentary move upset McGarry.

"We have things simmering in these schools and I think the board needs to know," said McGarry. "This is not an action item. It was mainly a report. We have information now that we're deciding not to share with the public and the board. And I think we're doing a disservice to Mecklenburg County and this is what the problem is, folks. It's a status quo mentality."

McGarry, along with the two other at-large members, did not seek re-election. So they won't be on the board next month to hear that report.
