CARY, N.C. – In a six to two vote, the Wake County School Board approved their new student assignment plan. It would allow families to pick from a list of school choices instead of being automatically assigned.

More Information

They will now choose from at least five nearby elementary schools with at least two traditional calendar and two year-round options. They could also pick from the magnet schools.

Students would then graduate to a preassigned middle school and then to an assigned high school. They could also choose to stay at their current school, if desired.

Despite protests against it, officials believe the plan will work for most families.
