RALEIGH—Wake County parents continue to react to the new student assignment plan unveiled Tuesday.
Superintendent Tony Tata gave the school board their first glimpse of the new "Wake County Plan" and some parents have concerns before board members vote.
• Online registration begins Oct. 8
• Public hearing: Oct. 13, 5 p.m. Broughton High School.
• School Board votes Oct. 18.
Under the plan, parents would have a choice of least five elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools based on their home address. School leaders said in order to promote diversity, there would be a variety of year-round, traditional, magnet, and high performing schools amongst the options.
"I think it's a little confusing. I don't think they realize the ripple effect it will end up having," said parent Robin Stewart.
Online registration of the plan begins Oct. 8. The public hearing on the assignment plan is next Thursday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. held at Broughton High School. The School Board will then vote on the plan on Oct. 18.
