RALEIGH – A proposal that would affect the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System has now won support from the full State House. The idea is that teachers would be given pay based on performance.
This proposal was offered on behalf of Superintendent Dr. Peter Gorman by local legislators.
But it has a lot of opposition from teachers and parents. Some state lawmakers were also wary of this proposal.
“It sounds to me like there is a lot of work yet to be done in Mecklenburg,” said Rep. Alice Bordseni, an Alamance County Democrat. “I would question why we are considering a bill yet to be resolved and there was not some unity before it even was filed.”
This proposal would only affect the CMS school system.
It will now go to the Senate for consideration.
