RALEIGH – There were some tough questions Thursday night for Wake County School's new Superintendent Tony Tata.
Tata spent two hours meeting with members of the community who have been publicly critical of the school board majority and their elimination of student diversity in school assignments.
Nearly 150 people attended the community forum at Martin Street Baptist Church. The hottest topic was neighborhood schools versus busing for diversity.
Tata was asked for his opinion on neighborhood schools and what the policy would do to diversity.
"It's not so much a discussion about neighborhood schools or about diversity," said Tata. "It's about where those concentrations, where my low performing students and how am I going to address that through some kind of plan."
Tata is now in charge of creating the school system's new student assignment plan. He's meeting with his task force Friday to give them guidelines for its development.
