CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board passed a policy Tuesday that ensures all students have equal access to resources.

The revised equity policy dismantles a citizen advisory committee that held the district accountable for its implementation.

It also no longer defines what resources, like books and technology, each student should have access to. That determination will now be left to the discretion of the superintendent.

“I think it's time for the board to take charge to direct the superintendent and make sure we are transparent in how we intend on distributing resources across this community,” school board member Kaye McGarry said.

Annual progress reports about resources at individual schools and a districtwide perspective will be available online.
