RALEIGH – A search committee making recommendations for candidates to fill the Wake County superintendent position met Tuesday night.
The post was vacated by Del Burns amid controversy earlier this year.
The search committee decided Tuesday night to hire one of eight headhunting firms, some of whose contract prices top $110,000.
The committee has a myriad of firms to choose from – and they're on a very tight deadline. Because of the state's budget deadline of July 1, they may be forced to choose a firm by June 15.
The potential delay could keep the position in limbo beyond the start of the upcoming school year.
The search committee will begin firm interviews starting on June 1.
Another public committee meeting will be held June 9.
