RALEIGH – Wake County school board member John Tedesco will give a detailed presentation on his vision for community school assignment zones Friday.

It would be the most concrete version of the plan so far.

Earlier this year, Tedesco and other members of the new majority on the board approved moving from a busing for diversity policy to the community assignment system.

Opponents say the move could lead to resegregated schools and poor performance in schools in low-income areas.

Tedesco will present the plan at a specially called board meeting Friday at 4 p.m. He stresses the plan for the community assignment zones will be developed during the next nine to 15 months.

"This is a starting point of a dialogue with the community," Tedesco said. "There's a lot of misinformation. One of the things I do think it'll help with is sometimes in the absence of information, people make things up. That's why we've got a bit of a heightened sensitivity in the community right now."
