There's a new name in the race to try and unseat Republican U.S. Senator Richard Burr. Democrat Cal Cunningham announced his bid for the nomination Monday.

The former one-term state senator from Lexington and Iraq War veteran said he has a clear vision of what he wants to do once he gets to Washington.

“My top priorities will be to work with the president to create jobs to restore innovation to our economy, invest in clean energy and lower the cost of health care for families and small businesses,” he said.

Cunningham faces political newcomer Kenneth Lewis and current Secretary of State Elaine Marshall for the Democratic nomination.

Tom Jensen, of Public Policy Polling, stopped into the studio to discuss the race. And Peace College political professor David McLennan also sat down to discuss the race.
