One man's 2,000 mile journey to see his son come home from Afghanistan is nearly finished. Mike Mobley began Operation: Hero Trek in March walking all the way from Colorado to Camp Lejeune to see his son Sgt. Ryan Mobley.

Jacksonville is home to Camp Lejeune and MCAS-New River as well as thousands of military families. Researchers are studying the area to find out the impact military deployments have on families and the community.

The search continues for Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, the missing Fort Bragg soldier who was last seen April 14 at the Froggy Bottoms bar on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. Volunteers met up Saturday at the River Community Church in Fayetteville.

For more than a decade Richard's Coffee Shop in Iredell County has been a place where military veterans were always greeted with the words "welcome home." Thursday, the well-known gathering place for veterans of all wars officially opened a living military museum.

Members of the Carolina Panthers football team visited the coast Tuesday. Head coach Ron Rivera, linebacker John Beason, cheerleader Cynthia English and mascot Mr. Purr spent the day with Marines and sailors aboard Camp Lejeune.

Charlotte business owner, Bob Weeks, and his friend are running 444 miles across the state of North Carolina. The men started their journey Tuesday in Asheville and they will finish up in Wrightsville Beach on the May 25. Along the way, people join him for portions of the run. However, Weeks and Adam Jurcisin are doing the entire trip, running an average of 29 miles a day.

Fayetteville held the Field of Honor opening ceremony on Saturday morning. The Downtown Alliance hosted the fifth annual ceremony, partnering with the Airborne and Special Operations museum for the first time. Both military and civilians purchased flags to honor loved ones both living and deceased.

The Department of Defense says three soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg have been killed in Afghanistan. Military officials on Wednesday identified the three soldiers as 22-year-old Sgt. Jacob M. Schwallie of Clarksville, Tenn.; 24-year-old Spc. Chase S. Marta of Chico, Calif.; and 19-year-old Pfc. Dustin D. Gross of Jeffersonville, Ky.
