LUMBERTON, N.C. – A public hearing on a proposed toll road on Interstate 95 is being held Tuesday night in Lumberton.
The tolls would help pay for $4.4 billion worth of improvements to the interstate, including new bridges and pavement repairs.
Construction is planned to start in 2016 with tolls starting in 2019.
Under the plan, a trip from North Carolina to Virginia would cost about $19, but officials say there are also plans to create short local trips for free.
The meeting is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Robeson Community College in Lumberton. Several other hearings are being held this month.
