BELMONT, N.C. -- Three teens are accused of vandalizing a World War II memorial in front of Belmont Middle School. The statue, "The Spirit of the Fighting Yank," was erected in 1946.

Authorities say Justin Russell and Henry Diegert from Mount Holly and Steven Morgan from Stanley confessed Thursday to knocking over the statue, stealing its head and throwing it into a creek.

They're charged with felony larceny, conspiracy to commit felony larceny and misdemeanor conspiracy to deface and injure a public statue.
