CHARLOTTE -- Johnston Road is closed while authorities investigate a fatal car crash. One person died at about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection with Providence Road West in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and to use Lancaster Highway as an alternate route. The intersection could be closed for several hours.
