CHARLOTTE – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a deadly accident in north Charlotte involving a Norfolk Southern train.

Authorities say a pedestrian was hit on North Tryon Street just after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the pedestrian was walking along the outer wooden portion of the tracks with his back to the train when the conductor spotted him.

The conductor told authorities that he blew the train's whistle several times, but the person did not move.

Medic pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim's name is being withheld until the family has been notified.
