RALEIGH--A family is holding on to hope after a deadly one way accident on Interstate 40 left their son dead and the son other severely injured.

Authorities say Job Hernandez, 17, was killed when Carolina Linares, 28, drove her car the wrong direction on Interstate-40 early Sunday morning and hit the car he was riding in. His brother, Natanael Hernandez, 21, was driving and remains in critical condition at WakeMed.

Diana Hernandez reflects on her youngest son. He was a self-taught musician and a member of the track team at Enloe High School.  He was getting ready to start his junior year.

"He was my baby. He would close himself in his room and play the piano.  I'm going to miss that," said Diana Hernandez.

Job's middle brother Lemuel Hernandez is paying tribute to his excellence on the track field.  He is wearing his brother's running shoes in his honor.

"We all had the same heartbeat. If we were all together you could hear just one. I love them very much," said Lemuel Hernandez.

Natanael survived the deadly crash, and will now undergo a long road to recovery.  An uphill battle his mother knows he will be able to fight.

"The first operation was the worst and he made it through that and everything else.  He'll make it, I know he will," said Diana Hernandez.

As for the driver who caused the deadly accident, the Hernandez family sends their condolences, knowing the family of Carolina Linares is also in pain.

"I don't know her, I can't judge her, I can only say that she was important.  She has life.  Everyone is important and everyone is valuable. We should value ourselves and those around us.  Make better decisions, make better decisions," said Diana Hernandez.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
