Congressman Mike McIntyre is reportedly running for re-election for his seat in Congress.

Democratic officials confirm the 7th District representative has decided against a run for governor, as he had previously indicated.

"My heart is in public service, and I love North Carolina," said McIntyre in a statement. "I am honored to have had my name considered for Governor, but there is simply not enough time between now and May 8 to construct the type of campaign that I would have liked to establish. I appreciate the many kind words and encouragement I have received. My plan is to run for re-election to Congress."

After Gov. Bev Perdue said she would not seek re-election in January, McIntyre said he was considering a run for the governor's mansion. But a Public Policy Polling poll had McIntyre facing an uphill battle if he ran for the Democratic nomination and potentially against Republican Pat McCrory.
