RALEIGH—Students from Exploris Middle School unveiled Raleigh's newest bus bench on Thursday.

The event was the Have a Seat campaign, a design competition for local magnet schools to make and install park benches downtown. Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton attended the event and said the project benefits more than just bus-riders.

"It's a way for these students to engage with the community, to provide service to the community, to learn about science, technology, engineering and math. It's a way they engage with the real world and for businesses engaging with them," said Dalton.

Less than 50 percent of Raleigh's bus stops currently have benches or shelters.
