CHARLOTTE – Charlotte lawyers and their families got their hands dirty Saturday during Hands on Charlotte's Service Juris Day. It's a day for members of the legal profession and their families to give back to the community.
They worked on the largest of the 17 gardens managed by Charlotte's Friendship Gardens.
"It's a beautiful day and it's good to be out and get exercise, but they're also helping their community by getting this garden ready for the fall. We're spreading some compost, spreading mulch, we harvested quite a bit today, we also planted a little bit," said Henry Owens, of Friendship Gardens.
The garden at Charlotte Correctional Center was tended by inmates, but the center will be closing soon, so volunteers will be needed to tend the crops.
