CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte Fire Department officials are working to determine the cause of an overnight fire at a manufacturing plant in west Charlotte. The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. Friday at Charlotte Pipe and Foundry on South Clarkson Street.

Officials say chemicals were involved, but that there was no environmental damage and that the chemicals don't pose a threat to the neighborhood. Five employees were taken to the hospital to be checked for non-life threatening injuries.

Summit Avenue was closed for several hours Friday morning while crews work in the area.
