RALEIGH – Record-breaking heat took its toll on the tar heel state.
The Department of Health and Human Services reports 150 North Carolinians went to emergency rooms over the weekend with heat-related symptoms.
"When we see a catastrophic type heat related injury, it is because they have to be out in the heat, so sometimes we'll see that with law enforcement, sometimes we'll see that with DOT workers, construction workers,” said Elaine Marshall, ER clinical manager.
Doctors and paramedics say the situation could have been a lot worse, considering the extreme temperatures.
