RALEIGH -- Blue skies are normally a welcome sight. But for the past few days the sun hasn't been very popular.

"It's disgustingly hot outside," said Raleigh resident Kimmy Davis.

The heat caused a change in plans for many over the weekend. In addition to empty tables outside restaurants, the start time of the North Carolina Symphony concert was pushed back by an hour.

"Violins, violas that sort of thing they're basically wood held together with glue and they're very, very temperamental in weather like this. So the cooler the better. The better sound they can produce," said concert goer Barbara Prillaman.

The shade was in high demand this weekend as record heat was felt all throughout the Tar Heel state. The capital city experienced two straight days where the temperatures were in the triple digits. From uniformed officers to cab drivers, those that had to work in the heat were armed with water and took shade whenever they could. But there was one group that many feel had it the worst when it comes to sweating it out on the job.

"Probably a construction worker. That would be pretty brutal right about now," said Wake Forest resident Chad Lepisto.

No matter what time of say it was the heat was on. Even for native North Carolinians it felt out of the ordinary.

"I actually worked out in Phoenix last summer in July and August and this is worse because it's more humid," said Davis.

As the sun beat down on the Tar Heel state the weather served as a reminder to many that heat, like snow, can be a four letter word.
